Protecting spring water sources is one of the most cost effective solutions used by Water for Kids in providing clean water, and in the last year 28 projects have been completed in Uganda, in addition to some larger projects.
Uganda is a very green country and has many artesian springs where water bubbles up and collects in pools. People collect water from the pools – and so do animals – and the pool can become very contaminated and difficult to access. WfK uses a simple, sustainable method to collect the water without contamination and make it available safely.
Such a spring source costs between £1300 and £1600, making use of local labour and materials. Clean water fo upwards of 400 people is delivered in each community, and over 11,000 people have recently benefitted in this way.
